Car Accidents in Sun City
There is always a risk of becoming involved in a traffic accident when you ride in a car. Unfortunately, the majority of the car wrecks that happen in the United States and throughout Arizona are the result of driver negligence. Approximately three million people are hurt in car crashes per year in the United States. On average, around 6 million car crashes happen per year in the US. In Arizona, more than 125,000 wrecks occur.
Auto crashes take more lives than HIV/AIDS in the United States every year. More people lose their lives in car accidents than any other type of accident. Over 90 people lose their lives per day in car wrecks in the United States, which is equal to around 38,000 people killed per year. Additionally, the fatality rate for auto wrecks in the US is 12.4 fatalities per 100,000 individuals. This is double the average car crash fatality rate for other developed countries.
Out of the millions of auto crashes that happen in the United States every year, about 2 million people sustain injuries that affect them for the rest of their lives. About 4.4 million people sustain injuries that land them in the hospital. The economic and societal impact of auto collisions in the United States is about 8 billion dollars every year.
After considering all of these numbers, it is alarming to consider that more than 95% of these collisions are the result of negligent drivers. Currently, the top ten reasons car wrecks happen in the United States are:
- Distracted driving: it is easy to feel pressured to pick up your phone or type out a text while driving, after all, everyone multi-tasks while they drive. However, they probably shouldn’t, as more than 1,000 people sustain injuries in auto wrecks caused by drunk drivers per day.
- Red-light runners: Running a red light is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. This is because people driving through green lights usually do not assume that anyone will be coming from a stopped direction on the road.
- Speeding: Feeling rushed when you’re on the way to somewhere important is understandable, however, arriving late is better than never arriving at all. Every year since 2009, speeding has contributed to more than a quarter of the total car crashes reported in the United States.
- Reckless driving: Reckless motorists are dangerous and unpredictable. Cutting people off, tailgating, ignoring traffic signals, and changing speeds erratically are hazardous activities and are definite routes to an accident.
