Arizona Auto Wrecks
When you decide to drive a car, there comes an imminent risk that you may become involved in an accident caused by negligence. On average, approximately three million people sustain injuries each year due to auto accidents in the United States, and most of these wrecks are caused by negligent drivers. In America, an average of six million vehicular collisions take place every year, killing over 90 people per day. This means that approximately 38,000 people are killed in traffic wrecks every year.
The fatality rate for car accidents in the United States is 12.4 deaths per 100,000 people. This is approximately double the average fatality rate for other developed countries. Of these collisions, around two million drivers become permanently injured each year, while approximately 4.4 million people will be so severely injured that they have to go to the hospital. The societal and economic impact of these wrecks is about 8 billion dollars each year.
The alarming fact is that over 95% of these accidents are caused by driver negligence. The top ten causes of car accidents in the United States are currently:
- Distracted driving: If you’ve ever been a busy driver, you know what it’s like to feel pressured to answer your phone or respond to a text. Multi-tasking while driving may seem harmless, however, over 1,000 people are injured in distracted-driving-related incidents per day in the United States.
- Running red lights: Running a red light is extremely dangerous due to the fact that those who are driving through green lights are usually totally unassuming that someone would be coming at them from a stopped direction.
- Speeding: It’s understandable to feel rushed when you’re going somewhere, especially if you’re running late. However, driving over the speed limit has worse consequences than arriving late. Every year since 2009, speeding has been a contributing factor in at least 25% of all auto accidents in the United States.
- Reckless driving: The actions of reckless motorists are often unpredictable and dangerous. Things like cutting people off, not using turn signals, tailgating, ignoring traffic signals, and erratically changing speeds are all extremely hazardous and are sure ways to cause a wreck.
If you have been victimized by a negligent driver, you deserve to be compensated for the damages you face in relation to your wreck. A car crash lawyer in Phoenix can help you file a personal injury claim for compensation so you can pay for the costs related to your wreck. The CDC reports that a traffic crash resulting in an ER visit costs almost $4,000. The cost of hospitalization for these injuries is more than $56,000.
