Phoenix, AZ (June 24, 2022) – Two children were killed and a female driver is listed in critical condition in Phoenix after a street sweeper went off of a ramp and fell onto the interstate below.
Responders were sent to the scene located on Interstate 10 near Loop 101. Initial reports show that the fatal accident happened on the southbound Loop 101 ramp.
The reason the street sweeper plunged off of the bridge and fell onto the roadway below remains under police investigation at this time. Witnesses say they saw the truck fall from the ramp.
When emergency crews arrived at the crash scene, they found a 40-something woman trapped in her truck with a child. The woman told police that there was also a third person in the truck before the crash, however, they were not inside the vehicle at the crash scene.
A few moments later, a child was found deceased on the ramp above the collision site. The female driver is currently listed in critical condition.
The child who was found inside the vehicle at the crash scene was transported to the hospital where they later died. Police believe speed may have played a factor in the wreck.
Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 was blocked for some time while crews investigated at the scene. The ramp was also closed for some time.
Police continue to investigate the details of the collision.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family or families of the deceased victims. We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.
